I was contacted a few months ago by a soon-to-be bride who wanted to present her soon-to-be-husband with a wedding gift: A family portrait session with Shine Pet Photos! (How cute is that?!) So I finally had a chance to meet the newlywed couple freshly returned from their honeymoon, along with their adorable 14 month old Golden Retriever Owen this past weekend.

This was my first time shooting a Golden and it was such a blast. He was such a crazy ham, and I had fun chasing him around his home! April, thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to photograph your family at such an exciting time in your lives.

By the way — how FABULOUS are those red shoes?!

schedule update.

Monday, June 30th, 2008

Just wanted to let you all know that I’m officially booked through July and August. Demand has been pretty high, and I’ve been booking about 2 months in advance. I’m taking a very limited number of sessions each month to ensure my clients get the best photographs possible.

So if you’re thinking about booking, please do it sooner rather than later! Also, people do cancel so it doesn’t hurt to email me to ask about my schedule. I just might be able to squeeze you in.

And lastly, I just wanted to note that sick or senior dogs will ALWAYS get priority. Time is of the essence, so I’ll try my best to get you scheduled as soon as possible.

A great, big thank you to all my past, present, and future clients!

extreme dog makeover: lala

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

I went to Pawd Squad yesterday to meet some new baby Rotties and found out some great news: LaLa found a home!

I photographed this sweet Pit girl in the very beginning of May, and she’s been looking for a home ever since. Despite whatever people may think about pit bulls, LaLa is the gentlest, sweetest girl ever. All she wanted was for someone to pet her and love her. Once you started petting her, she’d lean her whole body into yours and just didn’t want you to stop.

I also have to give a shout to Tina, the woman who pulled LaLa out of the North Central shelter, right before she was to be euthanized. The “before” photos are from Tina’s blog — you can see videos of how scared LaLa was at the shelter and how far she’s come under Tina’s tender loving care.

Well that’s one less dog needlessly killed in a shelter. And that’s just fantastic.

Say hello to little Marley, the cutest little poodle/shitzu mix. His mom rescued him from a woman selling Marley and his siblings out of a van at a Walmart parking lot! That first photo of Marley in the bag is one of my favorite photos. Something about the horizontal lines and vibrant colors just really works for me.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

dog fighting, from their point of view.

One of the best things about working in advertising are the amazing people I have the opportunity to work with, from fabulous designers to directors to photographers to writers. Now, I can add amazing animators to that list.

Michael Killen is the talented guy behind all the animation of our talking cow spots. He’s been doing the CA cows for the last 8 years, did the talking chihuahua in the “Yo quiero Taco Bell” commercials, and also did the animation on the Panda Bears in the recent Panda Express spot running right now.

When all the horrible news about dog fighting and Michael Vick hit the media, Michael felt compelled to do something, anything, to address this sad news. He says:

I was driving into work one morning listening to the story unfolding regarding Michael Vick’s involvement in dog fighting. The more they talked about what goes on, even beyond Michael Vick, I couldn’t believe it.

It was hard to keep this kind of story away from my children, particularly my daughter Erin who is 9 and passionate about animals of all kinds. Seeing as my company is called Animal, what could I do?

Well, what he did was an amazing PSA that’s now beginning to make its rounds around the internet. Please feel free to post this, email this, and share this with every dog lover you know. And if you’d like some background information regarding the dogs in the spots, check out his website.

Thank you Michael, for giving dogs a voice! It’s such a pleasure working with you.
