more clinton.

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

Just some more photos of Clinton, the cutest little long haired chihuahua ever.

I can’t get enough of this little guy! As many of my clients are, Clinton’s mama Erin was feeling a little camera shy and wasn’t sure if she wanted to be in photos. I always encourage owners to be in photos and I’m so glad Erin came camera ready that morning. The bond she and Clinton share is so amazing and the B&W photo of Clinton and his mama is one of my new favorite pet/owner photos.

Erin, thank you so much for such an amazing photo shoot. And thank you for all your incredible patience and understanding! Hope you love the photos as much as I do.

Here’s a hilarious dog video to brighten up your Tuesday:

This one’s a bit more sad: (Thanks Melissa!)

on copying (yes, again.)

Ugh.

I’ve come across yet another new pet photographer who’s re purposed text off my website for their own use.

This has been happening with such increasing frequency, I have to wonder if I’m the one who’s wrong to assume that most people understand how messed up copying is?

Isn’t that something you learn in like, 1st grade?

I can’t help but take this blatant plagiarism personally. I’m no writer. I spent hours and hours crafting every single world on my website. I’ve read every page so many times I think I have it memorized by now. I spent 2 long months perfecting my business plan, my marketing plan, my pricing structure, and my website.

Sigh. Now I feel like throwing my hands up in defeat. Slapping people with cease and desist letters just seems really crazy. Exposing the offending plagiarizers seems unprofessional and immature. But aside from feeling extremely disappointed and disgusted tonight, all I want to say this:

I challenge you, new photographers, to be fresh, be original, and most of all be true to yourself. If you’re busy copying other people, you’re not staying ahead of the game. You’re merely playing catch up with those ahead of you. And at the end of the day, you have to decide — Would you rather be a leader or a follower? I sure know what I want to be.

Copying someone’s hard work is not nice and extremely unprofessional. And Karma is a bitch!

And by the way, here is a good article I found on intellectual property:

How to protect your website’s copyright when someone steals your content

Oh boy, am I busy.

I have oodles of client photos to edit, Paw’d Squad dog photos to process, Holiday cards to design, photo books to layout.

On top of all that, my body is so freakin’ sore from 3 photo shoots this weekend.

And oh yeah, I do have that thing called my day job.

So it goes without saying that I’m incredibly grateful for my extremely kind and understanding clients. I’m so lucky to meet such amazing people on a weekly basis. I think animal people are just kindred spirits. Throw me in a room of strangers and I guarantee I will sniff out the dog lover. (No pun intended?)

Anyways, here is a mini sneak peek of an amazing little dog I met last week named Ajax. Ajax is a purebred American Eskimo dog, rescued from a Chicago pound by his loving owners. Can you believe someone abandoned such a gorgeous little dog? I can’t!

Willis and Jason, thanks for all your patience and I hope you love the photos! I can’t wait until you see the rest!

pork chop & bailey.

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

The Boyfriend had some friends over for a day of football and BBQ, and I had the pleasure of having Pork Chop and his big brother Bailey over at my house today. Pork Chop is a 6 month old Maltese-Shihtzu mix, and Bailey is a 3 year old Pekingese-Bichon mix.

Oh man. I love puppies.
