October 30th, 2008Mickey is one of those cats that thinks he’s a dog. He follows you around, is extremely vocal, knows how to walk on leash, and loves working for food. Sure made my job easy!
He was recently diagnosed with cancer and underwent chemotherapy, but seeing these photos you’d never know it. Actually, he looks completely healthy in person too! When his mama first contacted me he was still sick and was missing fur from his cancer treatments. But 2 months later when I finally met him he looked AMAZING.
Thanks Jennifer and Steve for a really fun shoot! Mickey was such a joy to photograph. I’m so glad he’s feeling so much better now!

These images take my breath away! He is so gorgeous, and his coloring looks perfect against those light backgounds. I’m curious - what type of lens was used here? It’s amazing.

I’ll be the first one to tell you I don’t like cats. I’m a dog person (obviously) but these photos make me like cats a little bit more. They are GORGEOUS. awesome job.

Thanks for all the comments! Mickey was a really special cat, not just because he was a cancer survivor. I loved photographing him — what a breeze.
Melissa — I used the Canon 50mm/1.2 lens for most of these shots. Since cat faces are flatter than dogs, the DOF looks really nice when you use this lens on cats.

The shots inside with the white backgrounds are so beautiful…I dream of having a white furnished house someday…I look at that and think, yeah right, my dogs would trash that in 60 seconds…

Thanks for the info on the lens, Grace! I got a Pentax 50mm 1.4 not too long ago - it’s pretty cool - but sometimes I wish I had started out with a Canon camera instead - I see so many great shots using Canon lately!

This guy looks EXACTLY like my cat! My cat also thinks he is a dog. I adopted him and don’t know what breed he is. Which breed is your cat?

Oh my gosh, I just found your website and I am LOVING all the cats, but the Mickey entries have to be my favorite! And it’s great to see I’m not the only person with a leash trained kitty!! Beautiful photos!!
