Jeffrey was recently pulled from the Baldwin Park shelter and he’s truly the saddest Rottweiler any of us at the Paw’d Squad has ever seen. Because of his tiny size, everyone thought he was a puppy. But the vet says he’s actually 3 years old! Jeffrey is suffering from extreme malnutrition, demodectic mange, and fleas. But aside from these issues, he’s in great shape.
How can anyone with a conscience allow their pet to get to this point?? I truly don’t GET IT — it’s SO INFURIATING!! I expected to meet a fearful dog, wary of people — he’s suffered so much at the hands of people who were supposed to love and care for him. But the minute I met Jeffrey, all he wanted was some love and affection. He kept nuzzling my hands for treats and pats on the head. Despite the trauma he’s experienced in the past, he’s still so sweet and loving and ready for his new home!
Jeffrey will need to stay at the vet for the next 4-5 months for recovery. He’s going to need some intensive vet care, lots of love from us all and some highly nutritious food. In all, we’re going to need to fundraise about $6,000! If you would like to donate to help Jeffrey get better, all of us at the Paw’d Squad would be so grateful. And Jeffrey will be too!
I truly believe in the generosity of good people, and of all those incredible people out in the blogosphere. I know many of you would donate without any incentive other than seeing sweet Jeffrey get better. But I’m offering any of my blog readers, flickr and facebook friends a 5×7 press printed greeting card as a thank you for your support. And the HIGHEST DONOR in Los Angeles will be given a free $325 value photo session from Shine Pet Photos.
So if you’d like to help, please visit the Paw’d Squad website, scroll down to the bottom and click the PayPal button. Don’t forget to email me your address (chonster [at] gmail [dot] com) so I can send you a card as a thank you.
And please help us spread the word about Jeffrey. Feel free to download any of these photos and repost on your blog. Let’s get him well and allow him the second chance at life he so deserves.

He has the saddest eyes. He deserves a second chance and I believe that he’ll get it. Great work you are doing Grace! Love that Gandhi quote.

Yeah his eyes are HAUNTING. And he was so incredibly sweet and loving. I can’t wait to take some “After” photos of him in the future.

Oh my god, that is so unbelievably sad. Bless his little heart. I pray that he gets a wonderful home after his stay at the vet.

Oh my word, I can hardly stand to look at these. I have never seen a more pitiful dog. Oh Lord, those eyes. I want to scoop him up and kiss him and make it all better for him. Thank you so much for sharing this with us, I hope Paw’d Squad gets all of the necessary funds to help him.
On a technical note, what lense did you use in these?

Wow, these photos make me, at once, furious and heart-broken. I’m not sure I can help right now since I’m not working but I’ll do what I can to ask around. Your generosity is impressive. But, I think you’re right - people will help anyway. Man, I wish I had more time and resources. Thank you and Paw’d Squad for what you’re doing.

Thanks everyone for all the heartfelt comments and support. Even if you can’t contribute financially, all your prayers and good thoughts and spreading Jeffrey’s story is more than enough! I have to commend Carole from the Paw’d Squad for having the courage to pull Jeffrey out of the shelter. A lot of rescues have a bad rap for only pulling out the cute, lovable and adoptable pets. But not Carole!
Emilee — I used the Canon 50mm/1.4 lens for these shots!

I guess its even more heart-rending because he still is so willing to give love despite what he has been through.. The shelter/rescue org I work with has seen plenty of neglect cases similar to this as well :\ Kudos for helping to spread the word

I’m back to see these photos. I do see sadness in his eyes but I also see wary hope. It’s as though he is sensing something is different, new people, new environment, new voices talking to him…maybe, just maybe these people are going to be nice to me. Maybe they will give me something to eat. Maybe they will help me stop hurting. Maybe they will give me a soft bed. Maybe they will play with me. Maybe they will talk me home .

I’ll blog it tomorrow. Poor guy. people make me so mad sometimes. You’re doing such great work, helping out with the Paw’d Squad. I hope he finds his forever and ever home after his rehab. I know he’ll be loved.

absolutely heartbreaking - my heart goes out to him! i can’t ever read a rescue story and not donate, so i will definitely go do that now! and kudos to you for doing these photos, putting his story out there, helping raise money… i really believe that we are so blessed to be doing this dog photography thing and it’s our job to give back as much as we can. after all, the dogs don’t deserve anything less than our best! thanks so much for doing your part!

I highly applaud you for all the work you do to help our canine friends in need. Nothing is more rewarding to me, as well, then helping those that can’t help themselves.

OMG. He looks so very sad. I’d love to see a follow up photo shoot when he’s healthy and happily found a new home. I imagine the change would be remarkable.

his eyes are just haunting. i’m glad that even with your insanely busy schedule, you have the time to keep doing this wonderful work for pawd squad. all their animals are very lucky to have you.

I want to thank everyone here and everywhere for their good thoughts for Jeffrey. He’s getting better every day. One of our volunteers took him home for the weekend so he could get out of the vet for awhile. He didn’t know what to do…didn’t know where to go. He’d never been IN a house before poor boy.
Your comments brought tears to my eyes. Restores my faith in humans. Jeffrey and I both needed these comments. Thank you
And Grace. we love you!

I so hope that small Jeffrey is doing okay in his rehab and maybe even conquered his wary confusion of being inside a home. I’m sure he will have a home immediately after he is declared fit enough (kinda wish I could come out and take him home…)
Thanks again for what you and Pawd Squad do for dogs such as this. You are among my heroes. Jeffrey is simply the kind of dog that alters a person’s thinking.

Hi. I saw these photos just this evening and this is terrible. Could I suggest maybe starting a Facebook page for Jeffrey with a link to donate on Paypal? Just an idea. Such a shame-I’m sure we will donate to help either way. Gassho.

Wow, I just donated — such a sweet sweet baby. Thanks for all you do to help these beautiful animals. They count on us to take care of them and it makes me sick to see how people mistreat them. I have 3 beautiful dogs of my own I rescued and I love them to pieces!!!

So sad- I came here from Bitchypoo and just donated. Hope you get all that you need!

Jeffrey wants to wish everyone HAPPY HOLIDAYS! He is now up to 75 pounds and is looking more handsome every day. He still has blood and bone marrow issues….but he’s getting there
Thank you all for your kindness and support. We couldn’t have done it without you and Shine Pet Photos!
