Please save Annie.

June 19th, 2009

UPDATE: Annie has been taken in by an organization in Santa Monica called Take Me Home - HIP HIP HOORAY! The woman who witnessed the whole scene unfold at the shelter and sent out the email 2 days ago says:

“My email went so far and wide, I cant believe it. Her story/pix was heartwrenching, trust me I hated witnessing the whole ordeal! Good news, a rescue/foster has been found :) I feel honored to have touched so many people with the pix I took, a lot of kind dog lovers out there, all the best!”

For those of you interested in adopting this sweet girl please contact Take Me Home.

The power of dog lovers and the internet ASTOUNDS ME.

Until the next doggie needs a home,

Grace

I get these types of emails forwarded to me a lot, but something about this one really got to me. Maybe it was Annie’s sweet face, or her desperate attempts to be back with her family. Maybe it’s cause I’m PMS-ing, haven’t had my coffee yet, and am feeling overly emotional this morning. But whatever the case is, this story needs to be heard and networked so Annie can find a great home. I’m trying really hard not to be judgmental here, because these are hard times for people and I know first hand how hard it is to find a place to live in LA with a dog AND how astronomical pet rent and deposits are here. But losing a warm bed and loving home because of economic turmoil is so devastatingly unfair to Annie!

I know how powerful the internet is and how fast information can spread - so please help me spread the word on Annie because time is running out. The original email was sent out on Wednesday and now it’s 2 days later so we don’t have much time. PLEASE HELP ANNIE!

This is Annie, a Rottie/Boxer about 2-3 yrs old. This is Annie’s “Mom” dumping her at the East Valley Shelter today. I was there to pick up Blossom & her pups when i see this dog following her owner without a leash. She explained she was moving and could no longer keep Annie - that she’s a smart dog - lived as a house pet inside her apartment her entire life - is kind and gentle with her 2 young kids and her birds - has 2 fluffy beds in the house and sleeps in her owner’s bed at night - housebroken - fixed - and she explained she is like a daughter to her…….and in the shelter Annie went

Annie got to the door and immediately knew where she was. With no leash on, she bolted back to her own car and climbed through the window to get back in between “her kids”. The owner got her out again, still no leash, and shut the car doors. Annie jumped on top of the car and peed in fright, she was determined to not get impounded.

Annie finally got inside with the help of the shelter workers, and kept her eye on the door pleading to leave by hugging her “mom” the entire time. I explained to the woman all the dangers of what could happen to Annie at the shelter and asked her to hold off dumping Annie until Friday. She agreed and gave me 2 days to figure this amazing, kind, gentle girl’s rescue out.

Annie is pure SWEET SWEET SWEET, a very sensitive, special dog. She is calm, well behaved, housebroken, SO tolerant of children, and would be an easy rescue to place as she has no issues. Please - if you can help in any way, please email me asap! thank you!

  5. Lisa Tatsuko Says:

I’m on the other coast, but I’ll spread this email around… if I could, I’d foster her myself, this is horrible, I can totally feel Annie’s pain and confusion……

  6. Lindsay Says:

How long does she have… thank god suzanne can take her for a little while. Like I said on the facebook post, if we can get her to chicago I will take her and foster her until i can find her a good home… I know that’s a longshot though.

[…] this brought me to tears today. i hope we never have to do this to any of our beloved […]

Devastating. But remarkable the way other animal lovers rally. I’m not allowed another pet, also I live in Oregon and am currently unemployed, so it’s not feasible for me to adopt Annie. But I would be happy to pitch in some money to help anyone foster her until a permanent and loving home can be found! Please let me know and please keep us posted on this situation. Thanks so much to everyone for helping. I understand these are horrible economic times and everyone is struggling, but frankly I would live out of my car and forgo food for myself before I’d ever give up my 4-legged family member. Hard to imagine!

Heartbreaking, heart wrenching…..moved me to tears.
Heartwarming that there ARE people out there who CARE! Thanks to Shine Pet and all who helped this helpless creature :)
    hugs

  14. Lindsay Says:

So i noticed on the take me home website that they don’t take dogs in… does this for sure give Annie a place to stay that’s warm and loving? Just checking…

  15. Jeff Says:

    Lindsay,

Take Me Home has a foster home standing by with open arms so that she does not have to be boarded or alone, without the human contact Annie so desperately craves. :) Great question. You are a true dog lover. :)

  16. Charity Says:

Way to make me cry Grace! geesh…
    What a sweet dog. :(

  17. Danielle Says:

I am crying my eyes out right (& I am at work!!). This is what happened to my one rescue doggy: Foxy. His mom dropped him at the shelter one day and never came back. He is the greatest gift I have ever received and makes my life livable! Please someone take in this poor baby.

To Annie’s “Mom”…I hope you are ashamed of yourself. Nothing could make me give up a dog.

  18. Vicki Says:

What an amazing story. I am so happy Annie has found a foster home. I have no doubt she will find a loving forever home very soon. I will keep her in my prayers.

  19. Lindsay Says:

Thanks so much for your reply Jeff. I feel SO much better now. My whole day was affected by this. Something about that dog’s face just cut straight to my soul…

  20. shine pet photos Says:

Lindsay - you are SO SWEET. Annie affected me the same exact way. She seems like a really special gal.

  21. Katy Says:

Annie baby, good luck love. You are amazing and beautiful. I know you’ll be okay. There are too many dogs like you and it breaks my heart to see this happen to you. I only wish we could educate people more on what it takes to be a true pet owner. My dogs are my children. I could never abandon them. I pray you find a forever home.

  22. Adele Says:

This is heartbreaking… and the children witnessing it too… :-( Trying soooo hard not to judge…

Hope Annie finds a loving and caring permanent home very-very soon.
